Hi there,

Regarding the drywall plug patch, I was curious as to whether you needed to have a steel or timber stud backing prior to installing the plug patch? Otherwise, the patch is effectively held by the drywall paper on the 4 sides - is that strong enough?

The beauty of the plug patch is that it requires no support from framing or blocking. This makes it ideal for repairing misplaced outlet holes or other small holes. The lack of support is why it is limited to use for small holes only. As for the strength, the "mud" glues the core of the plug to the core of the surounding board and the face paper serves as the joint tape making it more than adequate for small holes.
