PLAY THE BLAME GAME

A recent Gallup poll found that 75% of Americans are angry about the rising price of gasoline. On the average, we are paying about $2.93 for a gallon and this is expected to peak at about $3.62 by the end of the year. We are angry for many reasons and we are directing most of that anger at oil companies.

WHO ARE YOU ANGRY WITH ABOUT THE HIGH PRICE OF GASOLINE?

Gas/Oil companies 50%

President Bush/Bush administration 26%

Government/politicians 21%

Congress 4%

OPEC 4%

Oil refineries 2%

American public/consumers/taxpayers 2%

"Environmentalist liberals" 1%

Vice President Dick Cheney 1%

WHAT SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT IT?

Price controls 70%

Tax on oil company profits 64%

Suspend federal gasoline taxes 64%

Break up large U.S.-owned oil companies 56%

Most Americans are opposed to a $100 rebate on gas. This was proposed as a way to reimburse Americans for the federal gas taxes paid this year.

Most Americans say they trust the Democrats more than the Republicans to deal with this matter.
